The El Caminos have been described as: “A soundtrack for the truck stop in anywhere USA. Scorching guitars, broken hearts, crooning vocals, & stories of small town life turned upside down all come together to create an atmosphere that can only be described as all-American Bar-Room Music”.
Much of The El Caminos’ material is original, composed by songwriters Donovan & Heurich; the rest are obscure covers of original tunes by their friends & acquaintances plus one or two fun-time standards thrown in as encores.
Originally a duo, comprised of Armin Heurich and Chuck Donovan, the band has grown, adding John Saylor on bass & vocals, Joe Grant on drums, George Kobas, on mandolin, red-hot electric & slide guitar. The addition of these fine musicians has added depth as well as breadth to the band’s sound, while at the same time retaining the raw, live feel.
While the members of the band would be hard-pressed to describe their sound, the band definitely has its roots firmly planted in the Alt Country-Rock / Americana realm. Added to this are elements from string bands, rock and roll, and even punk. The band clearly has fun while playing, and their original tunes indicate a kind of snarkiness that about which one reviewer says “you can sense a chuckle behind the singing.”
Live performances have the band playing a Dangerously, Danceable, Fun Mix of Alt Country, Americana & Cow-Punk; upbeat, lively, and always a lot of fun
